When it comes to skincare, most people focus on the face, limbs and other parts of the body that are more prominent. After all, these parts often stand out, like a star on the red carpet. However, the neck doesn’t seem to get as much love, but even so, you hardly see products that specifically target the general area. Here’s a few reasons why you should really think about including the neck in your daily skincare routine.
Dryness can be a problem
This is because the neck has fewer sebaceous glands compared to the skin on your face. These glands help to secrete sebum, a natural oil that moisturises and protects your skin. With less glands on your neck, it’s more prone to suffering from dryness and sun damage over time. Be sure to use SPF products daily as well as gentle cleansers, or at the very least, use the same products for your face on your neck as well. You don’t want the skin on your face and neck to be noticeably different!
It is prone to scarring
As mentioned earlier, there are fewer sebaceous glands on the skin of your neck compared to the face. If left uncared for, signs of skin damage such as brown or dark spots, fine lines and increased pigmentation can be sustained, especially if the neck is exposed to sunlight for an extended period of time. If you apply sunscreen to your face before going out, don’t forget to do the same for your neck!
It is easy to care for
When considering signs of aging, many people think about wrinkles and fine lines on the face, but the neck can also display clear signs of aging and this is usually due to neglect. All it takes is some simple tender, loving care to ensure that your neck remains healthy and youthful-looking. As long as you do, you’ll stand out from the crowd during dinners and social events, and those compliments will be rolling in all night long!
We often use lotion all over our body and specialised facial products but the neck tends to be forgotten. But at the end of the day, there’s no need for a separate neck cream. You can just use your existing facial skincare products on your neck to ensure that the skin remains healthy and hydrated. Most of the time, special creams and products designed for your neck are completely unnecessary – at the end of the day, skin requires the same care and attention no matter which area of your body it covers. As long as your skin products are made with ingredients that contain nutrients, antioxidants, soothing agents and sunscreen, it’s probably good to go!
